It has been long rumored and now it is official…Dame Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the currently shooting sequel Fast 8.
Mirren confirmed to Elle Magazine about her casting:
“I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see. We’ll see how it transpires.”
The role Mirren will play has not be specified but she joins the core franchise cast of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Statham, and Kurt Russell. The newcomers in this installment include Scott Eastwood as a new character who will replace the late Paul Walker‘s iconic Brian O’Connor as well as new villain actors Charlize Theron and Kristofer Hivju.
F. Gary Gray is directing this installment, the first of the “final trilogy” of the franchise, which will rev up in theaters on April 14, 2017 from Universal Pictures.
