Boxer Munteanu is Ivan Drago’s Son in “Creed II”


Adonis Johnson…meet your next opponent!

German-Romanian boxer Florian Munteanu has scored the role of Ivan Drago’s son in the upcoming sequel Creed II. The sequel, to be directed by Steven Caple Jr., will pit Michael B. Jordan‘s scion against the scion of the very man who killed his father in 1985’s Rocky IV. Sylvester Stallone returns as the legendary Rocky Balboa and Dolph Lundgren will return as Ivan Drago. Tessa Thompson will also reprise her role from the original film.

Production is set to begin shortly for its November 21, 2018 release by MGM.

“Martial Arts Kid” Sequel Updates


The stage is getting set as three years after the original film, The Martial Arts Kid is returning and there are some recent updates involving not only casting, but how you can help make this sequel more exciting!

Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock are returning as Uncle Glen and Aunt Cindy with Brandon Tyler Russell returning as the one-time bullied Lenny, the best friend of the original MAK himself, Robbie. It has been announced that alongside Chuck Zito, whose character of Frank Whitlaw seeks retribution after the first film’s events, will be none other than Sasha Mitchell, who is best known for his roles as Cody Lambert on the 90’s series Step by Step and as David Sloane in the 1990’s Kickboxer sequels from 1990 to 1993.

Reynolds to Become “Detective Pikachu”

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…it just has!

Ryan Reynolds will provide motion capture and will provide the voice for the titular character in Detective Pikachu, a film version of the Pokemon-universe video game where the beloved Pikachu is re-imagined as a Sherlock Holmes-style detective.

The film co-stars Justice Smith as a young man whose father is kidnapped and gets an ally in the titular character and joining them as a sassy journalist is Kathryn Newton.

Rob Letterman will be directing the film from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.

Detective Pikachu is set to begin production soon for a 2018 release.

Meet the New Mikael Blomkvist

Claire Foy‘s Lisbeth Salander now has her partner Mikael Blomkvist.

Norwegian actor Sverrir Gudnason has won the role of Millennium editor Blomkvist in the upcoming The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a film adaptation of the fourth novel in the Millennium book series that began by the late Stieg Larsson and was completed by David Lagercrantz with the blessing of Larsson’s estate.

Blomkvist was originally played in a trilogy of films in Sweden by the late Michael Nyqvist and then played in the Hollywood remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Daniel Craig.

Gudnason recently gained acclaim for his role as Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg in Borg vs. McEnroe, with Shai LeBeouf as McEnroe. Aside from Foy, The Girl in the Spider’s Web co-stars Sylvia Hoeks, Cameron Britton, and Claes Bang.

Fede Alvarez will helm the film, which is set to shoot in January for an October 19, 2018 release date.

“Dynasty Warriors” Wraps Production; Three Cast Additions Revealed

Production wrapped in New Zealand on the live-action adaptation of the Koei-Tecmo video game series Dynasty Warriors. Production took nine months, beginning in China followed by New Zealand.

With the news of the film’s principal photography being complete, it has been revealed that three more cast additions have been revealed. Veteran supporting actor Lam Suet (left) will play Dong Zhuo, a military general of the Han forces. Philip Keung (right) plays Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turban force. Law Kar-Ying has been cast as Lu Boshe, an acquaintance of the warlord Cao Cao (Wang Kai).

Roy Chow directed the film with his wife Christine To serving as a producer. The film is set for release in 2018.

Liu Yifei is the New “Mulan”

Disney’s live-action take on Mulan has found its lead.

Chinese actress Liu Yifei (The Forbidden Kingdom) has been cast as the titular role in Disney’s upcoming live-action take on the animated classic, based on a true legend of a young woman who poses as a man to join the Chinese army for her ailing father. She would go on to become a general for the Army against the Huns.

Liu, a popular actress in China, won a worldwide search involving 1,000 applicants for the role. Niki Caro has signed on to direct the film.

Mulan is the latest in-development title in Disney’s live-action adaptation of some of their animated hits, which include Cinderella, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, and the currently in-production Aladdin and The Lion King.

Could Caplan be Bella Donna in “Gambit”?


Has Gambit found his lady love? It looks like a strong possibility.

With development now moving swiftly ahead, it looks like we will finally see Gambit hit the big screen in 2019. While Channing Tatum is still confirmed to take on the role of the Cajun mutant member of the X-Men, who will play the female lead.

According to sources, Lizzy Caplan is in negotiations to play the female lead, which is heavily rumored to be that of Bella Donna Boudreaux, the leader of a guild of assassins. Gore Verbinski will be directing the film.

Gambit is set for a February 14, 2019 release date from 20th Century Fox.

Angel is Batson to Levi’s “Shazam”!

Shazam has found his alter ego!

Asher Angel, who co-stars on Disney Channel’s Andi Mack, has been cast as Billy Batson in David F. Sandberg‘s upcoming take on the DC Comics superhero. In the comics, Batson is a teen who, when he calls the name “Shazam!”, turns into the titular superhero, played by Zachary Levi.

Mark Strong is in talks to play the villain Doctor Sivana as well.

The film will be the next to shoot in the DC Extended Universe, which will include Flashpoint (starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash), Batgirl (to be directed by Joss Whedon), and Suicide Squad II, which will be directed by Gavin O’Connor. There are also plans for Dwayne Johnson to star in a film about Shazam! villain Black Adam.

“Dynasty Warriors” Casting Update


When it was announced that a live-action adaptation of the Koei-Tecmo video game Dynasty Warriors was being made, the only thing that was confirmed was that Roy Chow (Rise of the Legend) was directing and his wife, Christine To, was writing and producing with the support of the video game company after pitching the idea for three years.

The story and casting was kept under wraps in terms of both actors and characters. Despite an on-set photo between Chow and actor Eddie Cheung, it was still unclear which character Cheung would be playing.

However, it has been announced recently that not only have casting been updated, certain characters have been confirmed as well. Here is a current update of who we will see in Dynasty Warriors:

Louis Koo, who is one of the biggest names in Hong Kong cinema today, will play Lu Bu. Koo suffered an eye injury that will take him out of action for about two to four weeks. He made the announcement at a recent event.

Hong Kong film veteran Ray Lui will play Yuan Shao.

Railroad Tigers co-star Wang Kai will play Cao Cao.

Justin Cheung gained fifteen pounds to play the role of Zhang Fei.

Han Geng, former K-Pop boy bander and co-star of the martial arts film My Kingdom, will play Guan Yu.

Tony Yang, recently seen in the action heist film The Adventurers, will play Liu Bei.

Model and actress Gulnazar will play Diao Chan.

Carina Lau is playing the Master of the Sword Forge Castle and Eddie Cheung, seen in the first on-set photo with director Chow, is playing an unspecified role.

The film, based on the video game based on the classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is currently in production in China for a 2018 release date.

Levi is DC Superhero “Shazam!”

Warner Brothers has finally found its Shazam!

Zachary Levi, who is best known for his roles on Chuck, Disney’s Tangled, and playing Fandral in the sequel Thor: The Dark World, has snagged the role of the DC Comics superhero.

The character, originally named Captain Marvel (which obviously cannot be used) and created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck, is the alter-ego of a young boy named Billy Batson, who when calling out the titular terms, becomes the superhero. The superhero’s name is an acronym for:

  • Solomon
  • Hercules
  • Atlas
  • Zeus
  • Achilles
  • Mercury

David F. Sandberg will be directing the film with production to begin in February for a 2019 release date.
