It looks like Jordan Peele may have found his Candyman.
Yahya Abdul Mateen II (left), who played DC villain Black Manta in the hit Aquaman, is in final negotiations to take on the titular role of the Candyman in Peele’s upcoming reboot, which will be helmed by Nia DaCosta.
The film will be touted as a “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 original film, with the film once again set in Chicago, where the legend of Daniel Robataille, a hook-sporting killer appears when his nickname is called five times. The original film was immortalized by Tony Todd‘s (right) performance in the original and its two sequels, which were released in 1995 and 1999.
Shooting is scheduled to begin sometime this year as the film has a set release date of June 12, 2020 from MGM.
