Finland’s first vigilante superhero is returning to wreak more havoc on his adversaries.

At the Cannes Film Festival, it has been announced that Jesse Haaja, who created the character of Rendel when he was a teenager, will direct a sequel to his 2017 action thriller. The original film made its U.S. debut on DVD via Shout! Factory this past January.

Rendel stars Kris Gummerus as a family man who loses his job as a financial manager for a pharmaceutical company who have created a deadly vaccine. When the man learns the truth behind the company’s true nature, he is forced to watch his family die and he is beaten badly. Seeking revenge, the man creates a mask and becomes the titular hero (the Hungarian word for “order”).

Black Lion Pictures and Frozen Flame Pictures, along with Raven Banner Entertainment, are gearing up for an early 2019 shoot which should see Gummerus return to the role of Rendel with the team of Miika J. Norvanto, Trevor Doyle and Timo Puustinen producing the film.

More as this develops.

    1. I think Jesse and team will begin production sometime later this year. He’s been doing some short films recently. I am just as excited about Rendel 2.
