After initial talks had broken down, Warner Bros. has made the official announcement that the director of The Batman has been announced.

Cloverfield and War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves (left) has signed to take over directing from Ben Affleck, who was originally slated to pull off directing, co-writing, producing, and star as the Caped Crusader. Affleck is still slated to return to the role of middle-aged Bruce Wayne and his alter ego. Affleck originally co-wrote the script with Geoff Johns but lately, Chris Terrio turned in a script rewrite that Affleck apparently approved of.

The only other confirmed casting involves Joe Mangianello, who will play the main nemesis, Slade Wilson, a mercenary known as Deathstroke.

The Batman is scheduled for release sometime in 2019.
