Coming off the success of the recently released Godzilla: Resurgence in Japan, Toho Studios has announced they will bring Godzilla back in a brand new adventure. The difference? This one will be animated!
The legendary monster has gone the animated route before in two television series in the U.S, the first in 1978 by Hanna-Barbera (above) and the second in 1998 by Sony, who released the 1998 version, in which the monster is now known simply as “Zilla”. The redesigned look of the 1998 version was what triggered Toho to bring their version back in 2000.
Polygon Pictures and Toho Studios will collaborate on the animated Godzilla film with Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita directing the film. The new story and screenplay will be written by Gen Urobuchi.
The animated Godzilla film is scheduled for a 2017 release in Japan
