Vin Diesel, the star and producer of the Fast and Furious franchise, unveiled on Instagram, the teaser poster for the next installment of the series, simply titled Fast 8.
The film will be shot in New York, but Diesel is also looking to have some of the film shot in Cuba. With the embargo between the U.S. and Cuba finally ending last year, approval is being sought by both governments for a portion of the film to be filmed there.
Taking over directing duties this time around is F. Gary Gray, the director of hit films like the original Friday and the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton. Diesel is returning to the role of Fast team leader Dominic Toretto. Also slated to return are Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs, Michelle Rodriguez as Lettie, Ludacris as Tej, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, and Kurt Russell as Mr. Nobody. It was also revealed that Jason Statham will be reprising his role of Deckard Shaw, the villain of the previous installment, Furious 7.
In the meantime, Diesel is busy returning to another role, Xander Cage, as he is currently shooting XxX: The Return of Xander Cage, in which he will co-star with Tony Jaa (his co-star from Furious 7) and Jet Li as the film’s villain. It is believed that Diesel will be doing Fast 8 after XxX.
Fast 8 is revving up for an April 14, 2017 release date by Universal.
