A robber on the verge of retirement learns his last job could be one that could end his life in this action thriller from the singular-named Ives.
Mason Goddard is the best in the business when it comes to becoming a master thief. However, he finds himself unexpectedly betrayed when his girlfriend, Amelia, is revealed to be an undercover FBI agent who had been after him. After his release from prison, Mason contemplates retirement from the game. However, his younger brother Shawn, offers Mason one last job before officially calling it a day. Reluctantly, Mason decides to take the job.
Mason reassembles his old team, including Shawn, Anton, and Jennifer to go to a local bank to find a fortune in a safety box. However, when the group attempts to rob the bank, manager Caras leads Shawn and Mason to the vault where the box is to be held. Meanwhile, the FBI have been made aware of the case and to make things more complicated, Amelia learns that Mason is the one leading the crew. However, when they learn who owns the safety security box, it becomes a matter that could lead to Mason’s last job being his death warrant.
In an age where the A-listers of old are now keeping up their love of the art through indie films, John Travolta is the latest who has been working the indie action circuit. Here, he plays a former master thief who goes on one last assignment that could threaten his life. There is something about Travolta that just churns out charm. It seems like no matter what type of character he plays, he brings a sense of being charming especially in the film’s opening scene and still harbors feeling for his, what he thought was the love of his life, only to learn she is an FBI agent.
Kristin Davis is great as Amelia, Mason’s FBI agent ex who upon discovering he is responsible for the bank robbery, starts to realize he never really wanted to be involved from his tones but offers to constantly help him when he makes demands in exchange for hostages. Lukas Haas brings a bit of comic relief at times as Mason’s brother Shawn, who convinces him to take the job. He tends to not be the sharpest tool in the shed and soon learns that he could be in worse trouble than the group imagines.
The film plays out more like an emotionally charged hostage situation than a full-on action thriller. There is a major twist in the second half that switches gears and slowly delves in some action towards the finale.
Cash Out is a pretty good film that once again brings out the charm when it comes to John Travolta and some great performances from Kristin Davis and Lukas Haas drives it further. Definitely worth checking out.
The film will hit select theaters and on Digital on April 26.
