Looks like the Mortal Kombat sequel will be getting a little “weird”, but not as you think.
Tati Gabrielle and Adeline Rudolph, who played “Weird Sisters” Prudence and Agatha respectively on Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will reunite on Mortal Kombat II, which is set to begin production this summer under the helm of Simon McQuoid, who returns after the 2021 film proved to be a hit.
Gabrielle, who is a black belt in karate, will play Jade, the lifelong friend of Outworld’s Princess Kitana and one of Shao Kahn’s assassins. And speaking of Kitana, Rudolph will be taking on that role. Talisa Soto played Kitana in the 1995 film adaptation and its absymal sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
The duo joins Karl Urban, who will play Johnny Cage, whose character was teased in a mid-credit scene in the 2021 film. It is unclear if Lewis Tan, Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, Chin Han or Hiroyuki Sanada will be returning for the sequel, but it is highly likely they will.
Jeremy Slater wrote the screenplay for the film, with filming to be done in Queensland, Australia for a 2024 release by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.
