It’s been 22 years since we last saw the original Lethal Weapon star in action…now, it looks like one final ride is in the works.

Producer Dan Lin has let out a major bombshell while out promoting The Two Popes. He has confirmed that a Lethal Weapon 5 is in development and on top of that, it was confirmed that Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as well as franchise director Richard Donner all want to return for this last ride. However, it will all depend on one detail: will the script be good enough to warrant the film?

The last time we saw Gibson and Glover in their comedic and action chemistry was in 1998’s Lethal Weapon 4, in which they took on the Triads, led by martial arts action star Jet Li, who not only made his Hollywood debut but also played a villain for the first time in his career.

A television series version of the film starred Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford was on air for two seasons before Crawford’s departure and being replaced by Seann William Scott (as a new character) for its third and final season, which ended in 2019.

Shane Black, who has since become a filmmaker in his own right, wrote the original film, released in 1987. Maybe he should return to the fray and write the final installment.

With the recent influx of returning franchises, from Rambo: Last Blood to the recent Bad Boys for Life to next year’s Beverly Hills Cop 4, maybe one last run will not be so bad. More as this develops.
