Taika Waititi is going to be keeping busy as one project is happening and a long awaited project is now on the back burner.
Waititi has signed a deal with Marvel Studios to bring back the God of Thunder, Thor, in a fourth installment of the franchise. Waititi will be writing and directing the next chapter of the Norse God’s adventures as his Thor: Ragnarok was a major hit and was hailed as a great Marvel film. However, with the official announcement of Waititi doing Thor 4, what comes of his live-action adaptation of the beloved Japanese manga and anime Akira?
It has been announced that due to script issues and production dates being too close, Akira has been put on hold indefinitely. Waititi had just begun the process of testing Asian actors in a worldwide search for the pivotal roles in Akira. Warner Bros. had planned a May 2021 release date, but it now looks like it will have to wait. Sources at Warner Bros. are hoping that Waititi will be able to tackle Akira after Thor 4.
As for Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth had stated that he would be open to playing Thor again and considering the success of Ragnarok and his chemistry with Waititi, it is safe to say he may just come back in the role of the God of Thunder.
More as this develops.
