With the feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson done with the duo burying the hatchet after the release of The Fate of the Furious, it looks like Universal Pictures is gearing up for a rumored spin-off that will bring Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham‘s Deckard Shaw together.
The rumor first emerged when an apparent scene between the duo on the set of The Fate of the Furious was shot only to be scrapped by series star and producer Diesel amid the infamous feud. But now that the feud is over, it looks like Diesel and Universal may be supporting the idea of the spin-off film.
A script has not been written yet, but according to the source, both Johnson and Statham have been meeting with series writer Chris Morgan with ideas as to how to bring the spin-off to life. Morgan will be writing the script once everything is all set. The idea is Hobbs to form an unlikely alliance with Deckerd Shaw for a movie that conceivably could be made while they are figuring the next Fast film, which has confirmed will have both Diesel and Johnson.
Could this possibly mean we could be seeing the spin-off serve as a bridge into the next official installment, aka Fast 8.5? Who knows?
More as this develops.
