Fans who have been awaiting a third film of the Hellboy saga are about to have a sad awakening.

Guillermo del Toro, who directed the 2004 original followed by its superior 2008 sequel, The Golden Army, took to Twitter to make the announcement official:

Ron Perlman, who played the former son of Satan turned action hero, had been lobbying for a third film for years. Upon hearing the official announcement, he replied:

While the third film is officially dead, fans can still enjoy Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army as much as possible.
