When a live action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime Rurouni Kenshin was released in Japan in 2012, fans flocked to see the story of a former assassin who must revert back to his samurai ways to save a village. The film did so well that two back-to-back sequels in 2014 with one of the story’s most famous arcs received just as acclaim as its original.

While fans all over the world would see the film through DVD and Blu-Ray on an international scale, the question is when will there be an official release of the trilogy in the United States? The question has finally been answered and it is sooner than you would think.

Funimation Entertainment has scored the North American rights to the epic trilogy, starring Takeru Satoh as the heroic Kenshin Himura, the former Battosai whose attempt as a peaceful life is shattered and now proves himself to become a real hero. The trilogy was directed by Keishi OhtomoBattle Royale‘s Tatsuya Fujiwara got major acclaim for his role as the villainous Makoto Shishio in the back-to-back sequels, Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends.

Release dates have been announced for the trilogy to hit a limited theatrical release, in Japanese with English subtitles:
Rurouni Kenshin
August 8-10

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno
September 12-14

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends
October 3-5

This will be eventually followed by a DVD & Blu-Ray release. It is about time for the U.S. fans to see this epic trilogy on the big screens on these dates. Check them out!
