It has been over two decades since we last saw the street smart Detroit cop Axel Foley cause insanity in Beverly Hills. However, after a failed proposed TV pilot in 2012, which would have seen Axel’s son in the lead role, it looks like the original is now coming back for a fourth round.
Eddie Murphy and Jerry Bruckheimer have been developing a fourth installment of Beverly Hills Cop for quite a while now. Murphy has stated that until the script was worth it, he would not do another round as Axel. However, something must have happened because Murphy approved of a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote recent hit films Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The new installment, which is set to bring Foley back to Detroit, is said to have a gritty yet irreverent humor feel. In addition, the film has found its directors in the Belgian duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who directed the critically acclaimed crime drama Black last year. They replace the previously named Brett Ratner.
It is unclear when we will see Beverly Hills Cop 4, but it’s looking like after 22 years, Axel Foley may be coming back…cue the classic Harold Faltermeyer song.
