garry-shandling

In what can be considered one of the most shocking news in Hollywood, comic legend and actor Garry Shandling has died at the age of 66 on March 24, 2016.

The comic legend recently made an impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his appearance as the very outspoken Senator Stern in the 2010 sequel Iron Man 2 and 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Garry Shandling was born on November 29, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. Before his stand-up career, Shandling was a television writer, writing episodes of classic sitcoms such as Sanford and Son and Welcome Back Kotter until a near fatal car accident in 1977 put him out of commission.

However, he bounced back and from 1986 to 1990, he starred in his own series, and we do mean his own series as the title was the classic It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. The series ran from 1986 to 1990. Two years later, he starred in the hit HBO series The Larry Sanders Show, playing the titular TV show host. That series ran from 1992-1998.

Shandling would make the sporadic appearance in films and television, including voicing a male pigeon in the first of the Doctor Dolittle films with Eddie Murphy; and comedies such as Mixed Nuts and What Planet Are You From?

World Film Geek sends it condolences to the family of Garry Shandling. Here’s a taste of Shandling in…yes, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. This one’s for you Garry. Rest in Peace.
