Filmed last year in Serbia, Order of the Dragon was a new martial arts film that is set to have Jackie Chan’s Who Am I‘s superkicking villain Ron Smoorenburg in his first leading role. The throwback film also has in its cast Mark Stas, David Kurzhal, Mohammed Qissi, and Steven Seagal.

The film was just about to get ready for release when a shocking twist of events occurred. On March 19, 2026, Germany-based Retro Gold 63, who financed the film, announced they have terminated their partnership with co-producer Dream Team Productions and director Vjekoslav Katusin over “many breaches of contract”.

The company has accused Katusin of holding the film hostage and in addition, use unauthorized shoots as a means to extort the company. According to the company, Katusin demands a “six-figure sum” or he will recut and re-edit the film and release it himself. Deeming that action illegal, Retro Gold had attempted to head to Croatia to get the film back and were blocked.

Retro Gold now plans to seek legal action in hopes to get the film back. The matter has caused some to pick one side over the other. Seagal had been seen in new promotional events with Katusin while Smoorenburg took to his Instagram to pledge his loyalty to Retro Gold, who he feels gave him the lead role he desired after nearly three decades in the business.

You can see the Retro Gold 63’s full statement on the matter on their official Facebook page.

Here’s hoping the matter will get resolved and we will get Order of the Dragon in 2026.
