A man goes to desperate lengths to win his ex back in this rocking dramedy from filmmaker Francisco Infante.

Owen was once a musician who had a passion for emo rock. However, as the years have passed, he has found a regular job at an office. Feeling humdrum, things just get worse when his girlfriend Liz dumps him. After time has passed, Owen gets a major shock when he is invited to Liz’s upcoming wedding. He decides to hatch a plan to win her back.

Going back to his roots, Owen decides to write the perfect song in an attempt to win Liz back. However, things don’t go as planned. As Owen grapples with his song writing, he is met with disdain from both loved ones and even Liz’s fiancee to not go through with his plan. However, Owen is determined to do what it takes but soon learns a revelation that will change the course of his path.

This film, a musically charged dramedy, is a character study in one man’s desperate attempt to win back the love of his life by going back to his roots and his humble beginnings. There will be those who want to root for central character Owen and those who support more of the ones who ask him what he is thinking. One thing is for sure. Owen learns to forge a path that could go either way, perhaps in the midst of things, finds himself once again.

Keegan Gogerty shows quite a range of emotions in the central role of Owen. The film starts with the breakup and the grief he endures. It is once he gets the invite to Liz’s wedding that he comes up with the plan to write the perfect song to win her back. Gogerty, along with writer-director Francisco Infante, wrote the songs he sings throughout the film. We also see Owen having visions of Liz, played by Maya McGowan, as a motivator for his songwriting.

However, despite Owen’s determination, there are those who confront him about his idea and feel he just needs to move on. This especially comes when he is confronted by Sean, Liz’s soon to be husband who tells Owen that they will get married with or without his approval. As the film goes on, we see Owen go through a series of revelations that ultimately make him find himself as a person again but the question to be answered is: will Owen go through with his plan, or will he finally move on his own path?

King’s Cup is more than just a dramedy filled with music, but a character study for a character who comes to grips with the possible reality that surrounds him. A great performance by Keegan Gogerty drives this film and definitely has a realistic feel to things.
