From the director of Slumber Party Massacre and Killer Body Count comes this new horror film that takes the dangers of online dating to a whole new level.
Paola has been trying to find the right man and through a dating app, she may have found the right man in Henry. She tells her sister Maria about Henry and the possibility of going on a first day while they wait for their father to have the surgery he needs. When Paola finally gets the chance to meet Henry in person, she is very excited. Henry invites her to dinner at his house. However, Paola will soon learn things aren’t as they seem.
Upon her arrival, she meets Henry’s mother Lucille. When Lucille offers her a drink while Henry gets ready, she finds herself drugged and tied up. She soon learns that Henry is not the man she saw in the dating app. Henry is a deformed man who follows his mother’s orders and Lucille tricks unsuspecting women to the house in hopes that Henry can help bore a grandchild for her. Paola soon must fight for her life and Maria, fearing she hasn’t heard from her, decides to find her.
Danishka Esterhazy is one of the best indie directors today with her amazing ability to take a script and give her own amazing visual flair to the project. Her 2021 reboot of The Slumber Party Massacre was a film that would go on to this day, still reign as the most-award winning film at the WorldFilmGeek Awards. She also made strides in the action genre with the most recent installment of the Sniper franchise, The Last Stand. This time, with a script from Al and Jon Kaplan, she explores the world of online dating and its potential dangers while giving it the Esterhazy flavor.
Humberly Gonzalez is excellent as Paola, our protagonist who thinks she’s found a great date only to find a terrifying nightmare. While it is clear she is not the first victim from this crazy mother-son duo, she is the first one to fight back. She starts out as a damsel in distress until she decides to fight back against the crazed Lucille and her mutated son Henry. Dianne Simpson channels a combination of Mrs. Loomis from Scream 2 and a desperate mother in need of a grandchild in the role of Lucille.
Jacques Adriaanse is unrecognizable as Henry, the mutated son of Lucille who is forced to attempt to be a new “dad” for her pleasure and if it doesn’t work out, he is forced to kill. The design of Henry is quite fascinating as it looks like Sloth from The Goonies, Belial from Basket Case and The Toxic Avenger combined into one entity. Luke Volker makes for a very interesting twist in the form of Eli, the kidnapped man who is forced to pose as Henry in the dating app to lure unsuspecting victims along with Nikita Faber as Natalie, another potential victim of Lucille and Henry’s morbid house of secrets.
Match continues Danishka Esterhazy’s streak as one of the top indie horror film directors today. Her visual flair is evident with an excellent script that takes the potential dangers of online dating and amps it up to ten!
The film is now available on Tubi.
