The legend comes to horrific life with an amazing twist in this thriller from the director of Friday the 13th: Vengeance and its sequel.
When the Evil Witch poisons the Queen of the Kingdom, before it’s too late, she gives her last breath to her newborn daughter, Snow White. Years has passed and the King has also died. The Evil Witch has now become the Evil Queen, and her next target is Snow White as she needs the blood of young ones to stay young looking. When she orders the Huntsman Gunnar to kill Snow White, he offers her a chance to escape instead.
When Snow White is hunted down by other Huntsmen, she finds herself protected by seven dwarves. At first wary, they discover who she is and reveal they were close confidants of her parents before they were exiled to the Dark Forest by the Evil Queen. With each dwarf having a specialized fighting skill, they train Snow White in their arts in an effort to be able to fight the Queen. However, the Queen has other plans in store to get rid of Snow White once and for all.
With the amount of visions used for the famous Grimm fairy tale, Jason Brooks has unleashed perhaps one of the best ones. With the live-action take on the Disney classic more or less not doing so great amidst its controversy, this one fares much better with Sanae Loutsis making an amazing Snow White as we see her as one who doesn’t believe in violence and only wants peace to the kingdom.
Chelsea Edmundson is aces as the Evil Queen, who in this take, resorts to dismembering young ones to keep her youthful nature with her meshing of the dark magic that she uses to dispatch anyone who goes against her. In one scene, she even goes as far as torture a handmaiden who seems sympathetic to Snow White. Meredith Binder gives it her all as the Evil Witch form, even in one shocking scene gives off a bit of The Shining vibes.
The seven dwarves of this version are not your Disney folk whistling working types. No, these are badass warriors who are trained and skilled assassins. In addition, they were close confidants of Snow White’s parents before their forced exile by the Queen. By helping and protecting Snow White, they are also looking to avenge themselves. There is a shocking twist with the Prince, excellently played by Tristan Nokes, in this one.
Brooks doesn’t hold back on the blood and gore factor. There are decapitations, teeth extractions, disembowelments, chopped off limbs and even a nasty head smash that would make Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Team proud. The finale is amazing to watch and keeps one engaged to the very end!
The Death of Snow White is amazing and will please both fans of the tale as well as horror fans. If you are a fan of both, then this is a definite must see!
The film is now available on Digital from The Horror Collective
