Remember years back, there was a viral YouTube short film called Kung Fury that was set to have a feature film sequel to have co-starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender? Well, for a while, we haven’t heard much else…that is, until a few weeks ago.

The film was actually completed, but we won’t be getting it anytime soon. The reason? A lawsuit is pending between producers and an investor of the film. This has caused the film to not being able to get a release yet. A similar situation happened in 2012 with the martial arts action film White Tiger as there was a lawsuit that after five years, resulted in the film finally being released under the title of Death Fighter.

Well, despite the legal battle of Kung Fury, the star and creator of the films, David Sandberg (not to be confused with David F. Sandberg, the director of Morbius and Shazam!) has announced his next project, a new film to be titled Dragonlord.

The new film, which can be described as a meshing of Star Wars, Mad Max, Lord of the Rings and He-Man in a wild over the top package where dinosaurs from the past co-exist with robots from the future…yes it is as crazy as it sounds

Sandberg will play the titular role of Dragonlord,  a treasure-obsessed hunter whose best friend is a Tyrannosaurus Rex called Blaze Falcon. Rather than hunt for yet more treasure, however, Blaze just wants to hang out and play video games, but when he’s kidnapped by the evil Dreadmancer (inspired by He-Man’s archenemy Skeletor), Dragonlord must pull together an Avengers-like team of bonkers heroes to save his dino buddy.

Sandberg is polishing the script and plans to begin shooting in Spring. The film will be fully financed by Supercell co-founder Mikko Kodisoja. The company is known for the hit mobile game Clash of Clans, which had announced will be getting an animated adaptation from Netflix.

Here’s to hoping we get Kung Fury soon and expect Dragonlord in late 2026-early 2027.
