A zombie apocalypse begins from the unlikeliest of sources in this insane adult animated feature from filmmaker Lutz Geiger.

In the town of Pricktown, Oklahoma, Apo Guerrero is a skateboarding, podcast-listening teen on his way to work. When he encounters a Karen and a homeless man with a sign talking about the Apocalypse, he deals with the Karen on his own volition and heads to work. He meets up with co-worker and best friend Jamal and also pines for Cho Haan, whose parents run the chicken shack just across from his workplace.

However, what is supposed to be Christmas Day at the mall becomes a nightmare when a Karen takes a form of rat poison believed to be the next big cure for COVID-19 and becomes a zombie. This soon leads to death and destruction but in a surprise and shocking turn of events, Apo learns that the zombies cannot harm anyone when they listen to Spanish music and there are certain people who are immune to being infected. Will Apo and the other survivors make it out before the Army sends in an airstrike?

This has got to be the craziest adult animated film since the likes of Sausage Party and others. Taking a page from Dawn of the Dead and adding shades of COVID conspiracies, viral Karen interactions, and a scene that brings the aforementioned Sausage Party to mind, writer/director

Lutz Geiger successfully has made a film that may have some graphic violence and “zombie nudity”, he has made a laugh out loud animated film about a Karen-sparked zombie apocalypse.

What will be very interesting is that the core trio of heroes are a Latino (Apo), African-American (Jamal), and Dutch-Chinese (Cho). This is important to stress because most, if not all of the zombies, are Caucasians who not only are anti-vax, but believe that “Rataterrie”, a form of rat poison, is the cure for COVID, according to Apo’s manager. This leads to the apocalypse where even the Army are talking to a scientist about the fact that Caucasians make up most of the zombies and right off the bat, they decide on an airstrike.

Aside from the George Romero-style deaths of the shoppers, the film delves into some pretty crazy territory. One unforgettable scene involves the manager’s wife who after turning goes into full Return of the Living Dead Trash-mode (those who know the 1985 film will know exactly where this is going) and then mix some special “snow” and this leads into something that is seen briefly but cannot be unseen and is reminiscent of the famous finale of Sausage Party, only replace food with the zombies. And to be quite honest, I would love to see Apo and the gang return for another adventure.

ApoKalypse is wild, crazy, and loads of laugh out loud fun for a zombie apocalypse animated film. This is hilarious and to be honest, could be a contender for “Best WTF Film” of the year.

The film is now available to rent on Amazon Prime.
