It’s the military against the zombies in this action-packed horror film from the producers of Arena Wars.
When a zombie apocalypse has decimated most of the world, a small town in the United States is one of the last sanctuaries for survivors. The military, led by General Vasquez, have been tasked with protecting the town. In order to protect the town, the group must protect the bridge that leads to the town. Vasquez dispatches Sgt. Hernandez and others to head to the bridge and protect it at all costs.
However, it is easier said than done as not only do the zombies attempt to make their way to the town, but something lurks underneath the bridge. The military and the townsfolk must find a way to work together and stop not only the zombies but the creature underneath before they become the next victims and potential zombies in this new age world.
Michael Su is definitely a name to look out for in the world of indie horror and action. His craft not only as a director but as a cinematographer, he can make anything look good no matter how low budget the film itself is. This film is quite good in both an emotional and action packed level as the film deals not just with tensions between humans and monsters, but also tensions between the military and the townsfolk who find sanctuary in the apocalypse.
Robert LaSardo is great as General Vasquez, a rarity to see him play a more protagonist role as the head of the military who dispatches a team of soldiers to protect the bridge to one of the last safe places. Michael Pare as Colonel Charon offers some good support to the General. A lot of their scenes involve talking to other personnel and survivors from their tent. On the other hand, Kate Watson shines as Sgt. Hernandez, who leads the team protecting the bridge and contends with both zombies and the creature that lurks underneath.
Once again, the creature effects and kill scenes once again deliver, employing more practical effects. There are some great zombie kills that leave the victims either completely killed or turn into zombies themselves. The creature under the bridge may be a suit actor (again, practical effects), but it’s quite better to see something of this nature rather than some CGI monstrosity that could hinder the by the numbers plot.
Bridge of the Doomed may seem like a run of the mill zombie movie, but Kate Watson’s acting and the twist of the creature under the bridge helps elevate the film.
