A realtor and exorcist may have finally found her forever home, but it comes with a price in this funny mockumentary from the team who brought you The WNUF Halloween Special.
Susan Price is the best in the business. Not only is she the most sought after realtor, but she has quite the ace up her sleeve. She is also an exorcist and before she makes the final sale of a house, she proceeds to exorcise the bad spirits away. Sometimes things don’t go as planned right away, but she does get the job done and makes the sale.
Travelling everywhere does take its toll on her and she hopes to one day find a place of her own. When she finally finds the place she dreams of, she believes she has exorcised the place. However, soon enough, she learns that the demons are not going to leave quietly. When they begin to haunt her, Susan soon realizes she can’t stop them alone. She gets help from a local priest as well as some unexpected allies who will do what they can.
Haunted films can be hit or miss, depending on the subject matter and execution of the film itself. This film, directed by Melissa LaMartina, offers something fresh to the genre. Co-written by Chris LaMartina (Melissa’s husband) and Rob Walker, they decide to go with a mockumentary approach to detail the life and career of a realtor who also happens to be an exorcist and in this case, she may have met her greatest match.
The role of Susan is hilariously in a wonderful way played by Emily Classen. She brings a wonderful and witty performance to the role as we see her in various situations exorcising demons in order to get that final sale or to even prepare to sell a house. Some of the funniest situations involve a husband accused of cheating on his wife only to learn it was the female ghost inside the house doing the “house wrecking”.
John Dimes deserves some credit here as the local priest who sometimes has a beef with Susan but turns out to be a reliable ally when push comes to shove. He brings in a vibe that would make Samuel L. Jackson proud in the role of the sometimes foul-mouthed clergyman. And if that’s not crazy enough, the final act ends on a turn that goes completely left field but in a satisfyingly morbid kind of way, but funny nonetheless.
For Sale by Exorcist is pretty damn funny thanks to Emily Classen’s witty performance and John Dimes’s foul mouthed priest. The mockumentary style works really well here and can’t wait to see what comes next from the duo of Chris and Melissa LaMartina.
The film will be released On Demand on March 11, 2025.
