He was Tigger in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey II. Now Lewis Santer shines as a Steamboat Willie-inspired killer in this great horror film that features a surprise character within the first twenty minutes.
At a small seaside town in the United Kingdom, Chloe is planning to leave to start a new life in the United States thanks to the support of her father, an American author whose latest work involves an urban legend. She decides to spend her last night with her best friends at the local amusement park. However, this is going to be an unforgettable night for Chloe and her friends.
A crazed doctor, Dr. Rupert, has been looking for parts to create the perfect bride. To achieve that, he created a monster in the form of a killer decked out in a suit and mouse mask. As the Mouse begins to unleash his killing spree on Chloe and her friends, they must find a way to evade the deadly killer. However, it is going to be easier said than done at all. Will Chloe and anyone else be able to get out of the fun park alive, or will they fall prey to the crazed Mouse?
In 2024, history was made when Steamboat Willie, the original form of Mickey Mouse entered public domain and of course, it was inevitable we would and still will be getting horror film versions of the character. Last year, we were introduced to The Mouse Trap, a less than average film that showed a possessed kids restaurant manager sporting a Steamboat Willie mask and targeting his co-workers and friends.
However, if that film hit below the mark, this film does a virtual 180 as this is a very exciting horror take on the Steamboat Willie character. In this case, he is simply known as “The Killer” and he stalks a group of people at an amusement park. The major difference is that this Willie gives off a Joker meets Art the Clown vibe and it is wonderful to watch thanks to the charismatic performance of Lewis Santer, whose Tigger in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey II was the big standout due to bringing that charisma to the role. In other words, Santer is definitely a name to look out for.
The cast is led by another familiar face only this time she goes from victim to possible final girl. That is Natasha Tosini, who appeared as victims in both Blood and Honey films as victims of the crazed childhood characters. However, she takes center stage as Chloe, a young woman who is gearing up for a move to the United States and on her last night, it becomes a fight for survival.
The kill scenes in the film are amazingly done, with loads of stabbings, disembowelments, and one in which one victim gets their arm sawed off. As if that’s not insane enough, there is a memorable side character played by Stephen Staley that resembles a certain Winnie and sporting the same mask in a particular 2023 film.
Mouse of Horrors is a great public domain film using Steamboat Willie as a killer but with the surprise appearance and graphic kills, this is sure to please gorehounds, even if there is shoddy CGI towards the end (but who cares?). Lewis Santer is definitely a name to look out for as he amps up the charisma as ‘The Killer’.
The film is now available to stream on Tubi.
