Two sisters reunite and go down a rabbit hole into a crime two decades ago in this tense and engaging thriller.

In 2003, Calgary was rocked by the deaths of Darrin McKay and Eve Tennant in a hotel room. It was believed to have been a murder-suicide with an affair gone wrong. McKay was a top man at industry giant Phoenix Gold and Eve was one of the cleaning ladies. When Eve’s daughters Paige and Jessie find their mother in a body bag, they leave, never to think about what had happened as they veer off in different paths.

Paige is now a top corporate attorney in London, England. When her supervisor asks her and fellow lawyer Scott to go to Calgary to broker a deal involving Phoenix Gold, Paige is at first reluctant. However, she goes and it gives her a chance to reunite with Jessie, who now owns a local bar and is seeing Paige’s ex-boyfriend, officer Brennant. When Paige begins to notice some discrepancies in the deal as well as learning there may not have been an affair, she learns there is a connection to what happened twenty years ago and she must rely on both her sister and her ex to decipher the truth.

This Canadian thriller from Anna Cooley is destined to be a gem when it comes to tense thrillers. Co-star, producer, and writer Kirsten Lankester not only pulls in a really good performance as younger sister Jessie, but she has crafted a film with a story about a 20-year old crime and discovering that it may have turned out there may be more under the surface.

Stacie Harrison, who also produced the film alongside Lankester, is great as Paige, the elder sister who has become a corporate lawyer and despite having a little PTSD from the crime 20 years ago. Her chemistry with Lankester is the heart of the film as they work together to figure out things. However, the fact that these two are estranged still shows some tension but they must overcome that tension to get to the truth.

What is very interesting here is now Lankester will drop hints in the script that slowly begin to unravel the truth behind what happened. This leads to a slew of characters who show up and somehow despite reservations, help the sisters out in their time of need. There are also characters who you will feel may not be as they seem and will make one engaged to guess what really happened. Overall, this leads to a pretty good finale.

Faultline is a very engaging tense thriller with Stacie Harrison and Kirsten Lankester at the heart of the film as the estranged sisters deciphering the truth. Definitely for those who love a good thriller.

The film is now available on Demand.
