Scream queen legend Lynn Lowry delivers a juicy performance in this insane horror-comedy from director Guile Branco.
Angela Long is a former dancer who is way past her prime. She has slowly descended into madness, capping it when she cuts off her husband Richard’s finger and ends up in a mental institution. A few weeks before Halloween, Angela is given the all-clear from her behavioral therapist, Dr. Roger Park. Meanwhile, Angela’s straight-laced daughter Karen meets Mark, a man who works at children’s parties dressed as a dinosaur.
Roger’s fiancee Rose suspects he is cheating on her and proves to be right when it is revealed that Roger and Angela have quite a relationship together. Meanwhile, Mark and Karen get closer and it gets to where Karen’s brother Stuart may have found someone in Karen’s goth friend Susan. Things get completely complicated and it all goes down when Angela invites everyone to a Halloween feast, one no one will ever forget.
From the mind of director and co-star Guile Branco and Arthur McClen comes one of the wackiest horror-comedies of the year. The story of a demented matriarch doing what she can to not only keep her family in check, but also keep her double life a secret by any means necessary for it all to culminate in the titular event has some crazy characters, insane kills, and jaw-dropping twists.
Horror legend Lynn Lowry delivers one of her juiciest and most insane performances and that is meant in the best way possible as Angela. From the moment we meet her, we know there is something completely off with her. Lowry is this generation’s Serial Mom in the role as she smiles her way but adds a bit of well, naughtiness as we see she gets engaged in a “mistress and servant” relationship with her doctor, played by Lou D’Amato.
There is a major subplot involving daughter Karen, played by Julia Coulter, in which she is the most grounded member of the family. She works at a bar for a little loan shark named Cudjoe, played by Til Death Do Us Part’s Pancho Moler, who always chastises her and puts her down. However, it is once she meets Mark, played by director Blanco, that Karen slowly begins to get her confidence up and even relies on her goth friend Susan, played by Asia Lynn Pitts, to see if she and Mark are compatible.
The second half is where things go completely insane as we see everything come together and there are some fun kills, including the use of a decapitated head as a weapon. And if that’s not bad enough, the titular Halloween feast is something that will be one of the most unforgettable with some jaw-dropping twists and an amazing finale!
A Halloween Feast is a treat that must be seen by fans of horror and dark comedies. Lynn Lowry is at her finest in one of her juiciest roles. The third act is one of the most unforgettable and has to be seen by lovers of the genres.
