This parody of the 1999 classic found footage horror film is actually pretty funny and laughable with an ending destined to make you yell “WTF”.
Adam and Kerry are the hosts of a local show who decide to tackle a legend they have heard. That is the legend of the Blair Rabbit. Adam hires an aspiring actress, Marlee, to join them under the condition that she serves as their anchor. As the trio heads to town, tensions already begin to flare between them. When they hit the woods, they see dung in the shape of rabbits and are convinced that it could be the calling card of the Blair Rabbit.
While the trio camps out in the woods, strange things begin to happen. Kerry is convinced that he heard some strange hopping noises the night before. It gets to where Adam is constantly attempting Marlee to make an adult movie with him. When Kerry goes missing, Adam and Marlee soon realize that he may be a victim of the Blair Rabbit and soon enough, they could be next.
When The Blair Witch Project came out, it set a new standard for the found footage horror film. It was destined that it was going to be a film that would not only kickstart a franchise, but also would be one to be spoofed. While there were glimpses of the film being spoofed in Scary Movie, this film from D. Kenny Prior is quite a B-movie funny spoof that is just borderline crazy, but in a good way.
It is clear that this is not going to be, nor should it be taken seriously. Writer and director Prior plays Kerry with Adam Powers playing Adam. The duo are the hosts of some public access show but in an interesting twist, the character of Marlee is played by Andrea Fears. It’s a twist in that the character name does not match that of the actor.
Like its originator, we see the trio conducting interviews with locals about the legend and in this case, they block it off and claim they either never heard of the Blair Rabbit or in the case of one local, discover he is selling rabbits. Of course, there are the “scares” and in one case, we see a guy in an Easter Bunny suit scaring the trio in the middle of the night and in another case, we see another trio of journalists in the woods interacting with our trio as they are looking for their own story.
The finale is wild and wacky, with Kerry going missing and Adam constantly convincing Marlee to make an adult film and when she apparently finally agrees, that’s when you know who is going to appear and this is where the film goes completely insane. It is something you are just going to have to see for yourself.
The Blair Rabbit Project makes its intention known. It’s pretty funny at times. It’s out of this world, and the finale is a complete “WTF” moment. If you just need to kill some time and you like horror parodies, consider this one on your list.
The film is released on a Special Edition Blu-Ray today (July 23) from Future Video
