It’s been a crazy week, so there are some news I missed and I’m sharing it with you, so here is your “In Case You Missed It: Action Edition”, as we are talking action films!
First, we have the current dream team of Alexander Nevsky and Joe Cornet, who are on a roll with their Rio Bravo franchise, the horror film Night of the Caregiver and the upcoming horror film The Omnious. The duo will be working on a new Western called The Wide West, which will feature John Wick: Chapter 4 actor and sumo champion Hiroki Sumi. Cornet is set to direct and co-star alongside Kerry Goodwin, Tatiana Neva, and Nick Baillie. Craig Hamann is writing the script. Some promo photos of the announcment can be seen below, thanks to Alexander Nevsky.

Next, some very unexpected news came this week in the announcement of Billy Blanks‘ first lead role in nearly three decades. The Tae-Bo founder and 90’s action superstar will be seen this June in The Last Kumite as the mentor of film hero Mathis Landwehr. However, the big surprise is that he will be the lead role as a fighter who looks towards the power of God to avenge his brother’s death. The movie is the fourth installment of Jalal Merhi‘s franchise The Circuit, which will have the full title of The Circuit 4: Faith Fighter. The last film in the franchise was 2006’s The Circuit 3: Street Monk which featured franchise hero Olivier Gruner, who according to the film’s poster, may be making a cameo. David Yeung, son of Bolo Yeung, will co-star and is also appearing in The Last Kumite. You can see the poster and trailer below.

Finally, we have Jean-Claude Van Damme, who is starring in the new thriller Darkness of Man. I had heard about this film last year when I interviewed co-star Spencer Breslin. The film, directed by James Cullen Bressack (the busiest filmmaker during the COVID-19 pandemic), has the action legend play an ex-Interpol agent who after an informant is killed, protects the victim’s son, who ends up caught in a turf war between various factions. Aside from Breslin, Kristanna Loken, Emerson Min, and Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones are co-starring with a May 21 digital release coming. Check out the poster and trailer below.
