It’s time to say, “Hello, Sidney” again!
Just when we all thought Scream VII was almost dead, major news has arrived today and they couldn’t be better. Announcing the news on her social media, Neve Campbell has confirmed that she will return to the franchise as the OG final girl, Sidney Prescott.
If you may recall, a salary dispute led to Campbell not appearing in the last installment, Scream VI, with the character getting a mention from series regular Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) that she and her husband Mark took their family to a safe location to hide from Ghostface. Now, it looks like Sidney will be back after making an all-too brief appearance in the fifth installment, Scream.
In case you missed it, Scream VII was originally to have brought back lead actors Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the Carpenter sisters with Christopher Landon set to direct. However, Barrera was dropped from the film after making a social media post supporting Palestinians in the currently ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. Later, Ortega left the project but due to a scedule conflict to begin work on the second season of her show Wednesday for Netflix. Landon announced shortly after that he was leaving the film as well and this led to chaos, making people wonder whether the franchise will continue.
Campbell’s post not only revealed that she will be returning to her signature role, but the franchise is going full circle with the franchise’s creator, Kevin Williamson, set to direct the new film. Williamson was involved in a more producer capacity over the last few entries to see him helm the new film will be quite interesting. However, he will not be writing the script as Guy Busick, who had written the last two films with James Vanderbilt, is flying solo to write the new installment.
