A woman in World War II goes against the odds to ensure her life is intact in this action packed drama from the director of Avengement and Triple Threat.

In 1941, Frenchwoman Marie Dujardin was in a relationship with SS Commander Von Bruckner. However, after a turn of events, Marie ended up in a German prison for three years. When she is released, she is deemed a traitor and has her head shaved and shorn. However, she finds help in the form of a small group of American soldiers by Major Maitland.

She tells the soldiers that she has held a cache of gold belonging to the Nazis and will tell them of the location if they keep her alive. Arriving at a cemetery, Marie starts to play a bit of mind games with the soldiers. They soon learn they are not alone when Clement, a member of the French resistance, is also there. Marie soon realizes that if she plans to survive, she needs both sides to work together against the incoming Nazi invasion but she also has some ulterior motives.

World War II films are quite interesting because normally, we see two factions at war with each other. In 2022, there were two underrated action films in Battle for Saipan and 3 Days in Malay, pitting U.S. and Japanese soldiers. Just before these two films, we have Jesse V. Johnson, a veteran of the action genre, came out with this film that not only have factions involved, but also has a strong female lead in Nina Bergman as a somewhat femme fatale who attempts to go Yojimbo before having to have two sides join forces to stop a bigger threat.

Bergman is great from the moment she comes on screen as we see her with Nazi commander Von Bruckner, played by 90s action star turned stuntman elite Daniel Bernhardt. She does display some sensuality, but that’s just on the surface. When we see her with the American troopers in the cemetery, she plays a bit of mind games with the troops, offering them different locations for the gold she stole from the Nazis. It is only when she is forced in a situation where the Americans play a deadly game where she reveals her actual intentions.

Louis Mandylor is great as Maitland, an American commander who is desperate to get his hands on the gold so he can live a better life once the war is over. Normally, most would sympathize with Americans when it comes to World War II. However, Johnson goes a different route here and shows them as greedy soldiers who do anything to get the gold. You could say they are the ancestors of Gordon Gekko.

Another highlight is that of Dominiquie Vandenberg as Clement, a member of the French resistance who is there and finds himself fighting his way and hiding. We also learn he has a connection to Marie and it is then where they have to convince Maitland the remaining Americans to join them when they know the Nazis are planning to infiltrate the cemetery when Von Bruckner returns to get his gold back. While there are mostly dramatics involved but it leads to a shocking all out action filled finale.

Hell Hath No Fury lives up to its name with Nina Bergman giving a tour de force performance as a femme fatale/hero in the making with some great support from Daniel Bernhardt and Louis Mandylor.
