A couple gets a dose of double jeopardy like they never imagine in this supernatural horror film.

Dane and Tasha are a couple who en route to a remote cabin in the woods accidentally hit a jogger. Fearing the worst, they decide to take the jogger’s body with them and learning he is still alive. When he tries to escape to get help, Dane takes things too far and stabs the jogger much to the shocking chagrin of Tasha. However, this soon becomes the least of their worries.

They hear a knock on the door. When they answer, they meet Briar, a young woman who is trying to escape an abusive relationship. As Briar tells her story to Tasha, a strange occurrence begins to happen. Tasha begins to notice that Briar may not be who she says she is. She soon realizes that Briar may be the host of a supernatural entity and when an incident soon occurs, the night for the couple will soon become one they will never forget.

Written and directed by Eric Williford, this horror film is intense from beginning to end. There are some insane twists and turns combined with some pretty gruesome things that go on, all in the name of a couple trying to cover up an accidental crime. In a way, it seems karmic for what the couple must endure, but at the same time, you can’t help but have empathy for at least one half of it and it’s no surprise who that half is.

That honor goes to Victoria Vertuga as Tasha, the wife who feels remorse and wants nothing to do with her husband’s plan to do something with the jogger they accidentally hit. She even goes as far as try to help him while they figure out what to do. However, Dane, played by Danell Leyva, has this notion the jogger will turn them in and resorts to drastic and ulterior motives which she witnesses and is a definitive “reaction queen” because Vertuga does it so well with her looks of shock and at times, disgust.

For most of her career, Jamie Bernadette has become a horror icon known as the “survival final girl”, the one who can have a special set of skills to stop the killer. As of late, she’s gone to playing an amazing final girl (Sebastian and End Times come to mind) or having an amazing dramatic performance (The Furnace). Here, this is the first time in this reviewer seeing her in an antagonist role and once again, she proves why she is one of the best out there. Her take on Briar, especially in a possessed state, is vicious and insane and just wait until the third act, where a major surprise comes and is unleashed in a way like no other, and that’s in a great way!

Cold Blows the Wind is an amazing karmic look at a couple whose mistakes catch up to them. Victoria Vertuga and Jamie Bernadette unleash some amazing performances as an empathic wife and a woman who may not be as she appears to be. These two are the reasons to see this film as they totally blaze the screen.
