It’s Dustin Ferguson’s answer to the classic Ghoulies in this installment of Malvolia’s Movie Matinee series.
Four people, Vanessa, Thomas, Josh, and Erica, move into a new condo in Los Angeles. They come across a Ouija board and decide to play with it for fun. They soon realize they have made a big mistake. The Ouija board unleashes a trio of creatures who are pint-sized demons. As the “demonoids” begin to wreak havoc, they go from the condo to the streets of Los Angeles, where they attack anyone who get in their way. Can they be stopped?
Dustin Ferguson has made some great films inspired by many hit films and cult classics. His love and passion for film is the exact meaning of entertainment. They don’t need to be seriously minded Oscar winners, but just fun popcorn flicks that are just fun to watch, even if they are so bad, they are great. This film looks to be inspired from the 1985 Luca Bercovici cult classic Ghoulies.
What’s great about some of these films is that Ferguson has unleashed his own version of the “Mistress of the Dark”, Elvira, in the form of Malvolia, played by Jennifer Nangle. This film is part of a series of films hosted by Malvolia. At a total runtime of 58 minutes, it is a fun, short and sweet horror comedy that looks quite funny and yet makes you want to avoid the titular demonoids at all costs.
The demonoids themselves look absolutely ridiculous and it’s not being said to be mean. It’s more like an “ohmigod am I going to enjoy this” kind of vibe. Looking like toys you can buy at a dollar store or thrift shop complete with fake teeth, these monsters are no joke. They come out doing damage even in the opening of the film, which is set in a haunted house before all hell breaks look at the local condo.
The second half of the film takes place on the streets where the demonoids wreak havoc on anyone they can find. There’s even a cameo from Ferguson himself driving through the streets of LA the same way he did in another film released this year, Cocaine Cougar. The random victims include those who are just a part of Ferguson’s crew of actors as well.
Demonoids from Hell is a fun and crazy film inspired by Ghoulies. Yes, the creatures look ridiculous, but overall, you can’t help but want to see what happens when they are unleashed.
