A cougar is on the loose in this crazy thriller from WorldFilmGeek Hall of Famer Dustin Ferguson.
A news report has emerged that a black cougar has escaped a research facility and has been stalking the streets of Los Angeles. To make matters worse, the facility was used to experiment on animals using cocaine to research the drug’s effects. However, as the cougar has emerged and begun a killing spree. When a local drug dealer en route to delivering to a customer is killed by the beast, the cougar is given more drugs to inhale and continue its killing spree. Despite efforts to stop the cougar, it may be too much for anyone to stop the beast.
With the success of Cocaine Bear earlier this year, it was inevitable that there would be some major rip-offs and “mockbusters” to capitalize on the trend of the “drug-induced animal” horror genre. WorldFilmGeek Hall of Famer Dustin Ferguson’s entry of the genre revolves around a cougar who escapes a research facility where it was supplied the drugs and from the beginning, escapes. At a runtime of only 50 minutes, it’s a pretty good popcorn flick with some hokey CGI effects, but who cares? This is still a fun film to watch.
We even get to look at the point of view from the cougar with the use of a red filter, which is actually pretty cool. There is even a hilarious bit with actor Erik Anthony Russo seeing the cougar and upon telling his girlfriend that a cougar is in the area, she assumes it is the other kind of cougar, if you know what I mean. There is some over-the-top acting from Guillaume Rivaud as the customer waiting for his dealer to arrive and goes insane during the phone call and goes insane as soon as he hangs up and waits. There are even some cameos from the likes of Dawna Lee Heising and Rocky DeMarco as well as Ferguson appearing in the film himself as a potential victim of the beast.
Cocaine Cougar is a fun popcorn film capitalizing on the “drug-induced animal” genre of horror films. If you liked Cocaine Shark and Crackcoon, chances are you will want to spend 50 minutes and see this beast wreak havoc.
