A woman searches for answer involving her patient in this thriller that took a total of 17 years to make and looks quite impressive with the past footage mixed with the present-day footage.

For the past ten years, Dr. Nathan Marsh has been stuck in a mental institution. This was due to the events of his attempt to search for and find strange paranormal activity at a campsite. The experience had led him to be in a catatonic state. The doctor in his care, former nun Catherine Charter, has learned that he has finally broken out of his catatonic state, and she now has decided to search for answers.

Finding tapes of his last expedition, Dr. Charter believes that if she shows him the tapes, he may have some answers. Nathan, who is possessed by the spirit he had accidentally unleashed, refuses to see the tapes. However, Dr. Charter is determined to find out what it is. The tapes involved Nathan and his students who helped him on the excursion, and they believed at first, he was playing a prank but soon, something really happened and now the evil has returned and it is up to Nathan, who is free from the evil, to find a way to end it once and for all.

This is quite an interesting film. There have been films lost for many years then coming up for a new generation of fans to see. However, this film does something in the vein of Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, where the film is shot over time in a way. What directors Nathan Faudree and Tony Urban did was shoot footage many years ago. Then, bring in the lead actor again years later to play his character from the past footage in a present-day story. It sounds originally like an idea for a two-part saga, but this works really well here.

Faudree also takes the central role of Nathan Marsh, a former professor into the paranormal who is ready to find the possibility to seek some presence. Of course, as one can guess, it doesn’t bode well and seeing the past footage of this feels like it could work well as a lost found footage film. However, the film is more of the found footage combined with a present-day story of Marsh in a catatonic state in a mental institution, but he’s catatonic for the reason that the evil he accidentally unleashed is dormant within him.

Katie Gibson is great as Dr. Charter, the doctor in charge of watching Marsh and intends to make him give her the answers of what happened ten years ago. She is joined by Sister Margaret, played by Leila Dean. Margaret has fears that she may not be able to help as much as possible, and even offers Catherine a chance to return to the cloth, but Charter is determined to do whatever possible. Seeing the footage unleashes a possessed Marsh to try to avoid the issue but soon enough the footage allows the evil to finally come out, making Marsh feel normal once again. There are some intricate twists in the film that keeps the film going, including the evil presence jumping from Marsh to another that leads to a finale that goes quite left field, but works well.

Site 13 could have worked well as a two-part saga. However, it works much better here as part-found footage, part-modern-day tale of a victim of the paranormal seeking redemption. Kudos to Nathan Faudree for pulling out all the stops both in front and behind the cameras.
