Get ready for the most insane trip through a haunted house in the Blu-Ray release of horror-comedy Deadstream from Joseph and Vanessa Winter.

First, let’s talk about the movie. Shawn Ruddy was a former viral star known for his pranks until one prank left someone in the hospital and he lost his followers. After six months of total limbo, Shawn decides to get one last shot at redemption by spending the night in an apparent haunted house where a series of murders were committed. One there, he makes the mistake of pulling off a ward from a closet and the spirit of a woman, Mildred, seeks revenge.

This movie is both insane and at times, very funny, thanks to co-director Joseph Winter’s lead role of Shawn. There are times when he starts to get scared and starts gasping and screaming as if he could be the voice of Minion from the movie Megamind. However, there are some great twists and turns, from a fan named Crystal arriving to help Shawn who appears briefly and then disappears. It’s pretty much insane from there where there are some nods to The Evil Dead in terms of its meshing of horror and comedy. There are also great supporting characters conversing with Shawn to help him in his time of need and how to combat the evil. Overall, a fun and wild ride that I would enjoy over and over again.

Now, let’s go the Blu-Ray. The disc comes in a nice steelbook casing with the great artwork in the front and a removable paper outlining the plot and special features and upon noticing the back, it is a close-up of Mildred, excellently played in the film but Melanie Stone.

The special features include an audio commentary by the Winters, producer/cinematographer Jared Cook, and co-star Melanie Stone; some great featurettes on the SFX by Troy Larson and Mikaela Kester, a funny gag reel, deleted and alternate scenes (the last one being a hoot in playing with the sound effects); some test footage and rehearsals, and some true stories that helped make the film was it is. Overall, a great Blu-Ray for a great film.

If you love the insanity of a haunted house movie from both a first-person and third-person POV, then Deadstream is definitely the movie to check out and make sure you get this steelbook Blu-Ray edition when it comes out on July 18 from RLJE Films and Shudder.
