We celebrate the life and career of one of the greatest showmen in horror cinema…and we mean the actor, not the character, in this riveting documentary.

Robert Englund never would imagine becoming a horror cinematic icon. For him, he is a character actor whose line of work can be considered legendary. From his film debut in 1974 with the buddy comedy “Buster and Billie” to small parts such as 1975’s “Hooper” and 1976’s “Eaten Alive”, the 1980s would become Englund’s breakout decade. It all started with the 1983 mini-series “V”, which made him a household name all over the world. However, it was 1984 that solidified Englund’s career as a bonafide actor and legend.

That was when he would be the iconic Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. Having played the character numerous times, from movies to TV and even a music video or two, Freddy became the horror icon on the 1980s and early 1990s. This would also allow him to make more horror films and one thing is clear. He loves the work and along the way, while making his directorial debut “976-EVIL”, Englund fell in love with set decorator Nancy Boone, who would become his wife. We get to see Englund both on screen as a horror legend and off screen as one of the most genuinely nicest guys you can ever meet.

From the duo of Gary Smart and Christopher Griffiths comes this intimate look at the iconic Robert Englund. From his start on the stage to his iconic work in the cinema, we get to see and learn a lot about Englund not just as an actor, but as a person. We get to see not only interviews with Englund, but those who worked with him having nothing but amazing things to say. In addition, we get some fun anecdotes from Englund and fellow cast members. This even includes a famous line in Eaten Alive that would be used in Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 epic Kill Bill.

We get to see Englund react to things that were beyond his control, such as the poster for Menahem Golan’s Phantom of the Opera, which he starred in as it had too much of a resemblance to his iconic Freddy Krueger. In addition, he even expressed some disappointment in the fact that Kane Hodder wasn’t chosen to reprise his iconic take on Jason Voorhees for Freddy vs. Jason but yet he did praise replacement Ken Kirzinger. We even get to meet his wife Nancy, who has been by Robert’s side and shows why he is genuinely a good guy when he’s not making TV or films and has a love for the fans.

Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is a fantastic look at the man behind the icon and not just the icon. It is great to see all the sides of the legendary actor from his perspective as well as those who know him very well. This is definitely worth checking out!
