Get ready as on April 16, it’s time for some major “Kombat” as Warner Bros. will simultaneously release the long-awaited reboot of Mortal Kombat in select theaters and a one-month run on HBO Max.
Entertainment Weekly has given fans a glimpse of the first look images of the reboot, directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan. The film will feature a new character in the form of washed-up MMA fighter Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, as he goes on a quest to find his destiny, which takes him to the tournament to end all tournaments with the fate of humanity in the balance. However, he can’t do it on his own.
Jessica McNamee plays Sonya Blade. Mehcad Brooks is Jackson “Jax” Briggs. Ludi Lin is Liu Kang. Max Huang is Kung Lao. Josh Lawson plays Kano. Joe Taslim is Bi-Han, also known as Sub-Zero. Hiroyuki Sanada is Hanzo Hattori, also known as Scorpion. Tadanobu Asano is the “thunder lord” Raiden. Chin Han is Shang Tsung. Sisi Stringer is Mileena. Rounding out the cast is Elissa Cadwell as Nitara.
Kyle Gardiner is the film’s stunt coordinator and fight choreographer, which will involve something fans have waited for in a MK movie: fatalities!
