Those who had hopes that Spider-Man would make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe….your prayers have been answered!

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have made an agreement for the iconic wall-crawling, web-slinging superhero to collaborate on a third solo film as well as have Spider-Man return in a future film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are set to produce the third film. In a joint announcement made today, Feige was ecstatic about the news:

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold. This is terrific.”

Pascal was just as ecstatic, saying:

“Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes. This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”

Last month, it was announced that Marvel and Sony would be dissolving their partnership, meaning Spider-Man (whose rights are currently owned by Sony) would be leaving the MCU, breaking the hearts of millions of fans around the world. However, this new information should bring everyone’s spirits back up.

Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna are currently working on the script for the 3rd Spider-Man film with Tom Holland returning to the role of Peter Parker and his alter ego. The joint announcement also has revealed a July 16, 2021 release date for Spider-Man 3.

Welcome back, Spider-Man!
