If The Matrix was reimagined as a drama-thriller rather than sci-fi action, then this is most likely the result.

The dark indie thriller Empathy Inc. is coming to select theaters and Digital in September. The film revolves around a startup company involving virtual reality and an investor who soon learns that the company he’s invested in is not exactly one with good intentions.

Zack Robidas, Kathy Searle, Jay Klaitz, and Eric Berryman star in the film, directed by Yedidia Gorsetman and written by Mark Leidner.

The film will be released in New York on September 13, followed by an On Demand and Digital release on September 24.
