That lovable, trouble-making monkey known as Curious George has been the subject of a successful book series by Margaret and H.A. Rey, a hit 2006 animated film, a few direct-to-DVD sequels, and a PBS Kids series. So what’s the obvious next step?
A live action adaptation is in the works at Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, who worked on the animated films, the first which featured Will Ferrell as the Man in the Yellow Hat, George’s owner. And a director has been tapped to tackle the monkey.
Andrew Adamson, whose best known work includes the original Shrek and the first installment of the Chronicles of Narnia films, has signed on to direct the live action version of the character. Producing will be Brian Grazer, Ron Howard,David Kirschner, Erica Huggins, and Jon Shapiro.
Look for the live action Curious George in the future from Universal and Imagine.
