By now, many know I am an avid supporter of the independent martial arts film circuit. After all, there are countless talents out there who get the chance to do what some of our favorite action stars do on the big screens today. That’s provide entertaining mashups for the fans.

Here, Emmanuel Manzanares of the LBP Stunts Chicago Team created a trilogy of a martial arts western he entitles From Man to Man (in the tradition of spaghetti western, it is also known as Da Uomo a Uomo). Manzanares is one of the best today with his expertise of directing and fight choreography, which is why he was a perfect choice for assisting Larnell Stovall on the shoot of the upcoming remake of Kickboxer, set for release later this year. In the meantime, check out this trilogy:

Volume 1 is an homage to the classic kung fu era of the famous Shaw Brothers, responsible for films such as 36th Chamber of Shaolin and The Five Venoms. This installment features Brendon Huor and Andy Le of Martial Club.

Volume 2 begins the “martial arts western” concept by Manzanares. Brendon Huor reprises his role as “The Outlaw” from Part 1 while Vonzell Carter plays “The Ranger”. Interestingly, one can think of this particular fight as an homage to the Donnie Yen-Jet Li fight in Zhang Yimou’s Hero.

Volume 3 features the story of a map in which a band of characters are after due to the map leading to a massive fortune. This one stars Anis Cheurfa as “The Outlaw”, Gui DaSilva as “The Hunter”, Brian Sloyer as “The Wild Card”, and Vonzell Carter returning as “The Ranger”. It seems like the characters could be based on the hit Korean western The Good, The Bad, and the Weird.

These are quite enjoyable with both the concept and Manzanares’ direction and fight choreography. For more on LBP Stunts Chicago’s awesome short films and reels, check out their official YouTube channel.
