This Donald Farmer-produced anthology about evil nuns has it all: gore galore, some comical moments, and some great chills all wrapped up in one little package!

The first story involves Father Michael, the descendant of a crusader who was mercilessly killed by a fanatical woman and her nun cult. When he learns that his son has been missing since going to a local brothel, his past life catches up to him as the brothel is run by the evil nun cult. The second story involves what was supposed to be a group outing reveals to be the place where a group of cannibal nuns began to start sacrificing innocent parishioners to their God and they have come back.

The third story involves a band of robbers who break in a very forbidden place and threaten a young woman only to find themselves face-to-face with a monstrous nun. The fourth story turns the tables as a murderous nun planning to steal the soul of an innocent young woman learns this woman isn’t so innocent after all. The fifth story revolves around the return of a deadly nun who has returned after centuries to seek revenge. There is a post-credit story of a nun who exacts revenge on the priest who killed the mother superior.

This is quite an interesting anthology revolving around evil nuns as “nunsploitation” seems to be a trend as of late again thanks to the recently screened at SXSW film Immaculate. However, this is quite an eclectic group of stories where the nuns are the villains. From nuns becoming members of a brothel to revenge seeking women of the cloth, these nuns are hungry for both flesh and souls.

There is no favorite story here as each one brings its own joie de vivre if you will for horror fans. Although there are some comical moments that blend in the case of two stories in particular. One is the first story, where Father Michael summons an avatar monster nun to seek revenge on the brothel workers who centuries ago were an evil nun cult. One particular killing was laughable as it lead to a shocking discovery on one of the victims.

The other comical moment could be said to be the story, “Dead Nun Walking” from Curtis Everitt in which Kimberly Cole Zemke’s evil nun attempts to steal the soul of an innocent. However, the tables are turned when the innocent turns into a Crow-like figure, but with a clown face and goes after the nun. It gets to a point where they eventually stop for a break and attempt a truce…or does it? This one had me laughing out loud but not in a bad way.

Nundead is a pretty fun and gory anthology that just adds to the world of nunsploitation. There are some funny moments, but some good horrific gore at times as well and is definitely worth looking at.

The film is now available to stream to Tubi.
