Nia Vardalos and John Corbett in the 2016 sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

UPDATE: John Corbett and Elena Kampouris are returning to the film as Ian and Paris Miller. It has been confirmed that the film will revolve around Paris as the family prepares for her wedding.

Get ready for another roarin’ time with the Portokalos Clan because it’s time to have another “big, fat, Greek wedding”.

Production has begun on My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 in Greece. The franchise’s creator, Nia Vardalos, returns in the role of Fortoula “Toula” Portokalos-Miller, who defied the odds and in the original 2003 film, married a non-Greek in Ian Miller, played by John Corbett.

While at the time of this post it is unclear if Corbett will be returning, it is most likely that Lainie Kazan, Louis Mandylor, and Gia Carides will return to their signature roles of matriarch Maria, wise-talking brother Nick, and cousin Nikki respectively.

One cast member officially not returning is the patriarch himself, Costa “Gus” Portokalos as actor Michael Constantine passed away in August of 2021 at the age of 94. Vardalos had talked with Constantine prior to his passing and this new film will be dedicated to his memory:

“[Michael] had told me he wouldn’t be able to join us for the third film and his wish was that we go on. I wrote the screenplay to reflect Michael’s decision and will always treasure his last messages to me, hoping we were filming soon/ We miss you Michael, thank you for bringing my words to life with such passion and accuracy, you will always be with us.”

Vardalos will not only star and had written the screenplay, but announced on her Instagram that she will be directing the new film as well. This will mark her second film as director, following the 2009 rom-com I Hate Valentine’s Day, which reunited her with Corbett.

Filming is underway in Greece on My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, slated for a 2023 release date.
