Sequel Bits: News and Trailers

Well, today is an interesting day with some news and trailers involving some upcoming sequels to some major franchises, so let’s begin with a bit of news.

Will Poulter

We begin with some major casting news involving Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which begins shooting in November with James Gunn returning as both scriptwriter and director. In the final of the mid-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Sovereign leader Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) teased one of the most popular characters in Marvel with a birthing pod of a being she decided to name “Adam”.

That “Adam” is none other than Adam Warlock, who is defined as the “perfect being” capable of destroying the Guardians and it has been announced that Will Poulter has been cast to play the character in the third installment. Poulter apparently beat out the likes of Rege-Jean Page and George MacKay for the role as Gunn found his audition to be exactly what he envisioned for the role.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for a May 5, 2023 release from Marvel Studios. (Deadline)

Next up, we have two upcoming sequel trailers that were released today. We start with Disney+‘s “sequel” Home Sweet Home Alone, which stars Archie Yates as Max, who is left home alone after his family leaves for Japan. There, he finds himself having to defend the house against a couple (Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) who plan to steal a family heirloom. The film retcons the 3rd, 4th, and 5th films as there will be appearances by Macauley Culkin and Devin Ratray, who are returning in a cameo capacity as Kevin and Buzz McCallister.

Home Sweet Home Alone comes to Disney+ on November 12.

Finally, we have the trailer for Scream, the official fifth installment in the horror film franchise which reunites Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette with Scream 4‘s Marley Shelton as they help a new group of potential victims survive against the returning Ghostface, who is targeting people somehow related to the original wave of killings in the 1990s.

Scream comes to theaters on January 14, 2022.
