Kevin Bacon (left) will be facing a new kind of “Avenger”.
The Hollywood legend has been set to play the main villain in Macon Blair‘s reboot of Troma Entertainment’s iconic character, The Toxic Avenger. Game of Thrones and Avengers: Infinity War actor Peter Dinklage (right) has already signed to play the new mutant superhero who starts out as a everyman who becomes the titular mutant after being pushed into a barrel of toxic waste.
Based on the 1984 film from Troma founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, the original film would become the film that put the New York-based indie company on the worldwide map of cult cinema and the film would spawn three sequels (with the first sequel being the film debut of action hero Michael Jai White) a cartoon series, Toxic Crusaders, in 1991 and an 11-issue series from Marvel Comics.
Bacon joins Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay (who will play Toxie’s son), and Taylour Paige (who will play Toxie’s love interest) as shooting is set to begin this month in Bulgaria. Kaufman has praised Blair’s script, calling it as far as better than the original Toxic Avenger film!
Legendary Entertainment, the makers of the Monster-Verse and the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel set for later this year, will be releasing The Toxic Avenger sometime in 2022.
