It’s time to take the red pill again.

After years of rumors, it was officially announced that there will be a fourth installment of the Matrix franchise. It has been long rumored about whether the new film would be a complete reboot or perhaps a prequel involving a young Morpheus. However, it is now official that this new film will in fact be a direct sequel to the trilogy that ran from 1999 to 2003.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have signed on to return to their iconic roles of Neo and Trinity. Even more good news is that Lana Wachowski will be returning to the franchise to both direct and co-write the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Lana and Grant Hill will serve as the film’s producers.

Not too long ago, Lilly Wachowski said she would be interested to see where the franchise would go and it now looks like Lana will be the one spearheading back into the Matrix.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in early 2020. So be prepared to “plug back in”.
