UPDATE (6/2/2019): Deadline and other sources have gotten the official word from Warner Bros. that Robert Pattinson is the official new Batman. Director Matt Reeves confirmed this weekend that he has chosen Pattinson and that The Batman will be the first of a trilogy with a set date of June 25, 2021.
Robert Pattinson is looking up and seeing a familiar signal high in the air of Gotham City.
This past weekend, the Internet broke when it was announced that Robert Pattinson would be playing The Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the classic DC Comics character. But then, hold the phone!
Not long after that announcement, it was confirmed that Pattinson is currently at this time, in negotiations to play Bruce Wayne and his costumed alter ego. Should Pattinson not sign, Warner Bros. already has a back-up in mind and that is Nicholas Hoult, who is currently playing Hank “Beast” McCoy in the recent X-Men films that is set to end with June 7th’s Dark Phoenix.
However, in some interesting news, should Pattinson sign on to play Batman, Hoult may be offered the role of The Penguin. According to one source, Hoult or Josh Gad may be offered the role of Oswald Cobblepot and that the current script will have six villains, which would include Penguin and Catwoman.
Will Robert Pattinson become The Batman? Time will soon tell as the film has been set to be released in 2021.
