It looks like the Jigsaw Killer is returning but this time, an unexpectedly ally is on the horizon to bring a new story to life.
Chris Rock, yes THAT Chris Rock, has pitched to Lionsgate a new story that will serve as a spin-off/reimagining of the horror franchise and it is definitely now moving fast. Rock joins fellow comedians Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Danny McBride (Halloween) as recent comedians who are delving behind the scenes in the horror genre.
Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate Films, had this to say about Rock’s involvement:
“When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in.”
Rock’s story will come in script form by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg with Rock serving as executive producer alongside Daniel Heffner and franchise creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed three of the original installments, will return to direct the new installment.
As if that’s not fast enough, Lionsgate already locked in a release date: October 23, 2020.
