The Prince of Zamunda is Coming to America again!
After it was announced last year, it looks like the Coming to America sequel is moving ahead as Paramount is set to hire Craig Brewer (left) to direct the sequel to the original film, which came out three decades ago.
Eddie Murphy is set to return as Prince Akeem of Zamunda, and in the sequel, he learns he has a long lost son. This will cause him to make his return to America to find the heir to the throne of Zamunda. Murphy is hoping to bring back Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, and James Earl Jones for the sequel. Sadly, Madge Sinclair passed away in 1995.
Brewer is a well known director, with Hustle and Flow becoming a break out for actor Terrence Howard. Brewer and Murphy recently collaborated on the upcoming biopic Dolemite is My Name, with Murphy playing legendary cult icon Rudy Ray Moore.
Kenya Barris is reworking the script by Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, the writers of the original film. Barris is also executive producing with Murphy and Kevin Misher serving as the film’s producers.
There is hope that the Coming to America sequel will begin shooting this year.
